Mr. José Vaz (CEO) what does your company do?
Although the founder’s purpose, 76 years ago, was to create a distribution company for maintenance, repair, and overhaul products for the Portuguese industry, nowadays Romafe is much more than that.
We are an engineering company that pro-vides products, services, technology and knowledge necessary to optimize the rotation equipment of our partners reducing their total cost of ownership. By increasing the service time, we are able to positively influence the productivity and profitability of our customers, this is our mission!
What is your flagship product?
Our flagship product is the bearing. The re-ason is very simple, bearings are core of any rotating equipment and obviously they are considered critical parts. If they are not carrying enough quality, well assembled and well maintained, they could be responsible for enormous losses the production and company cash flow.
A simple failure in a small bearing can com-pletely stop a production line, causing irrepa-rable production losses and high costs.
The good news is that is possible to predict and prevent these events if you have the right partners by your side. Our total focus is to invest in people and inno-vation knowledge to be the best partner. When and why did the partnership between ISB and Romafe come about?
To provide excellence service to our custo-mers, we need to work side-by-side with the best suppliers. This is why we have a partnership with ISB for almost 20 years.
Our market was demanding a high-quality brand with a competitive price so we made the obvious choice – ISB. Today we supply ISB in the most demanding industries such as cement, aggregate, mining, food and beverage and many others.
What are the “pluses” of the partnership with ISB?
We think Romafe and ISB are very similar companies in many aspects. We are both fa-mily business with the same ambition stron-gly based on solid values. For us is clear that this is the only way to gain the respect and confidence of the market, becoming a leader.
We are able to communicate with ISB openly, and rapidly defining the best strategies to grow together. It´s also very important to have the possibility to communicate directly between managements to understand the best way for business develop. Another crucial aspect is the team, the people involved in the process.

What are your plans for the future?
One of the certainties is the uncertainty of pre-dictions. We believe is necessary to go back to basic knowledge: survivors are not the strongest but the ones with the most ability to adapt.The-se are the reasons why it is so hard to make structural plans for the future. So, our master plan is to continue to be extremely focused on our customers’ needs and to strengthen value partnerships with our suppliers. Growing toge-ther with ISB is a solid base we trust.
