When and why did the partnership between the ISB and TELLURE RÔTA come abo ut?
The partnership with ISB began in 2017. We had, at that time, an urgent need to rationalize the logistics for bearings (a fundamental component for many of our articles), both in terms of warehouse management and in terms of the ease of pick-up on the part of the production departments. In addition, we needed to shift from management with many suppliers to a single supplier of bearings for the articles with the highest stock turnover, in order to guarantee constant product quality. The partnership with ISB allowed for great improvements in both of these aspects.
What are the “pluses” of this partnership with ISB?
Working with ISB allows us to have control of the stocks of bearings which is timely and precise and enables us to reduce the risk of stock breakage and associated problems to a minimum. In addition, the choice to work with a single supplier allows ISB to have very high volumes of purchases from us, and therefore to supply with regularity, giving continuity to the service and generating economic benefits for both parties.
How did the ISB KanBan project come about? What were your requirements?
Our production departments have been organised on a “lean production” basis since 2007. In the last 5 years, we have tried to extend the lean logic also to a number of suppliers of high volume components. In 2017, when we started with ISB, we had already had experience with other suppliers, and we knew that in the situation of acquiring components with lots of different codes, management with KanBan was the ideal solution.
